Pew Research Center for the People & the Press published a study entitled Beyond Red vs. Blue: The Political Typology - About the Political Typology on May 4, 2011. In it, they report that a growing number of Americans are choosing not to identify with either political party, and the center of the political spectrum is growing increasingly diverse.

As a result of this observation, the 2011 typology divides the public into eight politically engaged groups, along with a ninth group of less engaged Bystanders. The assignment of individuals to one of the eight core typology groups is based primarily on their position on nine scales of social and political values – each of which is determined by responses to two or three survey questions – as well as their party identification. The results provide a richer picture of the American political scene and a new, more progressive posture for the south in particular.

They have created an interactive site on which you can discover which typology group you fit into and explore each group’s views on major issues. We encourge you to take a few minutes and take the QUIZ.
